Course Aims
To equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in current and future employment or for progression to diplomas and degrees in the IT sector in Ireland and on undergraduate degrees in specific UK Universities.

Duration
Two years full-time.

Entry Requirements
Students applying directly from Leaving Certificate must have at least 1 C3 on a Higher Level paper and four passes on Ordinary papers including English and Mathematics.

Students applying directly from FETAC Level 5 Certificate require a full Award of at least 205 points generated from 8 relevant full-value modules. Points are awarded as follows:

Level 2 Modules:
Pass = 20 points
Merit = 35 points
Distinction = 50 points

All applicants whose first language is not English will be tested at entry.
All applicants will be interviewed.

Work Experience
Two week duration in a relevant organisation in year 1 and year 2.

Awards
BTEC Higher National Diploma from EDEXCEL.

Higher education Progression
Students may progress to specified Degree courses (Level 7) in a number of Institutes of Technology. Graduates from this course annually progress (2nd or 3rd Year entry) into the Business and Enterprise Degree programme in IADT (Institute of Art, Design & Technology), Dun Laoghaire and also into the Marketing and Management Degree in Institute of Technology, Tallaght. Our graduates have also received exemptions from Degree courses in Dublin Business School. Sligo IT, Carlow IT and Letterkenny IT have also offered progression into appropriate degree programmes. Students may also progress with exemptions into UK colleges through the UCAS System. Rathmines College has also developed working relationships with particular UK colleges such as Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, Writtle College in Essex and Buckinghamshire Chilterns University. Within Rathmines College graduates have progressed to the Diploma in Public Relations (PRII).
