Business and career courses
These courses aim to help people improve their knowledge and skills for work or further study in the area. There are courses offered in the areas of accounting, business management and marketing with accreditation from FETAC and the Institute of Accounting Technicians in Ireland (IATI).
Leaving Certificate preparation courses
We offer Ordinary Level Leaving Certificate Maths for 25 weeks for the whole academic year starting in September. In the spring term, we offer short preparation courses for the oral examinations in Leaving Cert French, Irish and Spanish while our art appreciation course would be very useful for Leaving Cert History of Art students.
Lifestyle and leisure courses
We offer a wide range of courses to improve personal well being, express your creativity, learn more about fascinating subjects or take up a hobby. If you are interested in physical exercise and expression we offer bellydancing, drama and acting, tai chi and yoga. Perhaps you just want to sit back and enjoy listening to a talk on the humanities with economics, philosophy, politics or even study on our UCD accredited psychology course. If you wish to appreciate good nutrition, try our health and alternative nutrition course or maybe take our wine appreciation course. If you are feeling creative, then drawing and painting, interior design or even creative writing may be your best choice. But if you like competition and a bit of fun, bridge is the course for you.
Computers for leisure and work
These courses aim to improve people's computer skills for their leisure or work. We have courses at all levels of competency, from complete beginner
to ECDL and FETAC level 5. You can study word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and powerpoint using Microsoft Office or why not improve your internet and email skills? We also offer courses in programming with visual basic, web page design, digital imaging and a computer troubleshooting course.
Languages
Languages are one of our specialist areas. We currently offer courses in Chinese, English for Speakers of Other Languages, French, Irish, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.
Most of these are offered at a range of levels with native-speaker teachers. FETAC level 5 accreditation is offered on some courses.
Evening courses calendar
Classes are held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. Courses vary in length from short ten-week courses, lasting only one term in autumn or spring, to twenty-five week courses, which last from September to June. The calendar follows the day-time academic calendar with breaks at Halloween, Christmas, February and Easter.
Enrolments and Brochure
Enrolments take place in September and again in January each year. There is an Evening Courses brochure available in the weeks before enrolments directly from the college or by visiting our website. Our programme of evening courses is also published in the City of Dublin VEC Guide to Courses and Services and in several other newspapers and guides at this time. In order to avoid disappointment, we advise you to keep an eye out for our brochure so that you are ready for enrolment day. On enrolment day you will have the opportunity
to talk to a member of staff about the course which interests you.
Fees
Fees vary for these courses but are always very reasonable because the charges are based on what it costs us to provide the course, nothing more. Fees are paid on enrolment night. See autumn or spring edition of evening courses brochure for more details.
Certificate
While there is a Certificate of Attendance available for all courses, many of the courses are accredited and certified by professional and academic bodies, including FETAC, IATI, UCD, ECDL.
Progression
Having got the taste for study in the evening, we would encourage those who are interested to consider full-time study with us during the day. As you will see from this brochure, there are many full-time courses which relate to our part-time evening programme. We would be happy to discuss your options with you.
Courses for everyone
We are committed to the principle of lifelong learning for everybody. Adults of all ages from 18 to 108 are welcome to participate on our courses. We have students from far and near and many different communities. Some of our students are pursuing a hobby while others are developing their knowledge and skills in a particular subject area for their working lives.
All are welcome.
We value your feedback
We make changes and additions to our programme each year in order to provide an interesting and varied menu of courses. We aim to put on courses that people need and want. We are therefore very interested in hearing from you about any courses which you would like to see us provide for you.
We look forward to meeting you in the college.
