Pre-University News and Media

The course will teach learners the fundamental skills to work in the Media industry across a variety of platforms. The course keeps pace with the ever evolving media landscape. It incorporates the practical skills and tools that allow learners to successfully pursue a career in media and journalism, including researching and writing, radio production, and technical skills.

The course is designed for students who specifically want to progress onto a Level 6 within Rathmines College in Advanced Media or a Level 7 or Level 8 in Media, Journalism or Communications courses in DCU, TU Dublin, IADT, and UCD. Media graduates will have the appropriate level of academic writing and research methodologies to successfully complete a Level 8 degree.

Education Progression

QQI Level 5 Award holders are eligible to progress onto Rathmines College’s Level 6 Advanced Certificate in News and Media in the Digital Age or apply to a wide variety of Higher Education colleges see www.cao.ie  and www.qqi.ie.  Graduates meeting the specified criteria (Distinctions in 5 nominated modules) may apply for progress to DCU, TU Dublin and IADT Degree Programmes in Communications and Journalism.

Work experience is an essential part of all our programmes. The College assists students in finding suitable work placements and monitors and assesses their performance in the work place.
